Custom Disc Stamps

A disc is the one piece of tournament merchandise every player takes home, so the stamp on it is the design most people will see the most. Since 2020 the club has run a custom disc for most events and a few for the club itself, through whichever manufacturer had the plastic and the process the design needed: Dynamic Discs for most hot stamps and every DyeMax, Innova and Discraft for the championship runs.

The two processes want different art. A hot stamp is foil pressed through a die: one or two colors, no gradients, and anything thinner than a hair drops out, so the line has to carry the whole design. That is why the Majette Monster stamp is a single-weight line drawing and why Nessie is water and a neck and nothing else. A DyeMax is a full-color print over the entire face of the disc, which is a different job: a scene, not a mark. The Lost Toss disc gets Santa and an elf throwing under palms because the process can hold it.

Every one of these went through a vendor proof, and the proofs are what I keep, because the proof is where the design meets the disc: the mock-up at maximum size on the actual plastic color, with the reminder that once approved, whatever is on it is on it.
